The Renewal of Spring
With the energy of Spring upon us now we move out of the darkness of Winter and into the emerging Light. This time, about halfway between the Winter & the Summer Solstice was known traditionally in the Pagan world as Imbolc, the Festival of Fire. Imbolc represents renewal, purification, reflection, fertility & illumination and celebrates the return of the Light.
In the current darkly troubling times, where despair and a sense of helplessness has dominated the minds of many, what better metaphor to draw upon than the image of the return of the Light to illuminate our way and bid us to lead with our hearts?
From a place of infinite wisdom, the plant world experiences a continual cycle: emergence from the darkness of the seed, through growth, flowering, seeding, withering and dying to be reborn again as the seasons roll. When we attune ourselves to this natural wisdom of this continuous cycle, we draw on a power of creativity much larger than ourselves.
Personally, I take great comfort & guidance in recognising that the cycles of life inherent in nature have upheld & maintained life in its myriad forms since the beginning.
Spring asks us to leave the darkness behind, blow out the cobwebs of stagnancy & fear and renew & purify ourselves to invoke creative fire (the basis of fertility).
So, how do we do this in our day-to-day especially in these tumultuous times?
The renewal & purification energy of Spring offers us the opportunity to clarify our thinking to allow a wider view of how life always renews itself, even from the ashes. To do this we need to unhook from the fear running parallel with Covid and remember to trust that life, much bigger and more powerful than we mere humans, will reset again after the chaos has settled.
Return to nature’s wisdom by taking walks in the forest, sitting by the sea, watching the moon.
Reinvent yourself by weeding the garden of your mind regularly to eradicate thoughts of doom & gloom.
Recreate a new healthy you by eating well, exercising as much as possible and granting yourself still moments of reflection and mindfulness.
Explore your creativity by letting your fertile imagination have free rein.
Enjoy the opportunity to cherish your beloveds, friends & loved ones by practicing compassion and forbearance.
Drop any sense of entitlement – it doesn’t serve, but rather feeds discontentment.
And most of all, enjoy your relationship with yourself. By remaining calm, centred and focused on love for yourself, others and the planet, you help to bring on the reset.
