Is plant life intelligent? Does it have consciousness? Scientists tend to answer no, at least in the strict sense. Plants lack brains and neurons, so what they display is better described as behaviour, signalling, or plant cognition rather than intelligence. But before settling on that verdict, it's worth looking at some newer, more widely accepted ideas about what intelligence actually means.
